Cambiaso Keeps His Crown
By Ron Allen
Undefeated La Dolfina/La Natividad ran the table in the ‘Triple Crown’ at Palermo in Argentina. 50-year-old Adolfo Cambiaso mounted up for his 21st consecutive Open final.
Last September they won the Triple Crown opener at Hurlingham with a win over UAE. Then in October at Tortugas, they beat Ellerstina/Chapa by one goal. The same teams from the Tortugas final returned to the field for the title match in the Open.
The opening chukker was back and forth with no advantage for either side. In the second Ellerstina/Chapa managed to get the first 2 goal lead at 5 to 3. Then their offense went flat, and Ellerstina/Chapa got shut out in the 3rd and 4th. By halftime La Dolfina/La Natividad managed to establish a comfortable six goal advantage at 11-5.
After the sixth period the Cambiasos and Castagnolas lead was cut to four points. The Heguys and Pieres crew were only trailing by two in the seventh chukker and It looked like they were on the rebound. With only five minutes left in the title match tragedy struck and Facundo Pieres was sideline with an injury.
That was all that was needed for La Dolfina/La Natividad to walk off with the win. Final score: 17-13
La Dolfina/La Natividad have already committed to defend their title in 2026 as at least 4 other teams are in a mad scramble to regroup with new lineups for next year.
